Life after college

“What’s life after college like?”

To be frank, right now, it’s pretty busy. Right after college, the only responsibility I had was work. Five months later, I’m trying to keep up with friends, family, and hobbies. I’ve been focusing on activities that don’t involve a screen more and more. I haven’t dedicated time to filing bug reports on projects I like or doing general maintenance on my server. I did set up Home Assistant a little while back. Having automatic lights come on is a QoL improvement I didn’t see value in before.

I’ve been trying to cut out foods high in sugar and eat healthier. I’ve been trying to eat less like a kid in college (still hard because microwave hot dogs are the move). I’ve also become a coffee snob.

I’ve also become a bicycle fanatic (slowly transitioning to a mountain biker). I was hitting the gym 3-5 days a week, but I’d MUCH rather be outside.

I recently went through and culled a lot of my social media accounts. I haven’t enjoyed looking or using it for the last year. (Pessimistic outlook ahead) Mainly because it’s a cesspool of bragging rights. I figured it was best to keep my circle smaller. It allows me to stay more authentic to myself and the people I am around. In the past, I’ve deleted various social media apps from my phone, but I’d always manage to return to them to get my hit of dopamine seeing the lives of people I don’t interact with. It’s strange reading that sentence out loud after the fact. Removing those I don’t contact or talk to anymore was difficult but necessary. They’re called friends on social media, so my lists should be meant for that - people who are my friends right now. Most people I had added were from high school. Most were acquaintances. I don’t think getting social media accounts at age 12 was helpful, as my naive brain would add people I knew on a whim. People might disagree with my sentiment, but I don’t see a place for people I only get to peer in on their life. It takes away from the things I enjoy most - people who are a part of my life and my hobbies.

Anyways, that’s my spiel of why you should invest in things that make you happy. Biking’s been that for me lately. Coffee too. I need to get a coffee grinder because pre-ground is awful. I’ll get there in due time.
